JeffCo DA Sues Adamsville Over Open Meetings Act

Birmingham, AL – The Jefferson County district attorney has sued the Adamsville City Council for violating the state's open meetings law when it closed a meeting to discuss the city's finances.

District Attorney Brandon Falls filed a civil lawsuit in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Friday that accuses Mayor Pam Palmer and the council of violating state law when they closed the June 25 meeting. The civil suit also claims the council did not properly notify the public about a special called meeting July 6 to pass a resolution to participate in the state's sales tax holiday.

City attorney James Ward said the city denies the allegations.

Council member Anthony Brooklere, who made the motion to close the June 25 meeting, said Falls was ``wrong in his summation of the law.''
