Ala. AG Seeks Execution Date For Tommy Arthur

Montgomery, AL – The state attorney general's office is asking the Alabama Supreme Court to set a new execution date for Tommy Arthur.

Arthur's execution was put on hold last year after another inmate claimed that he killed Troy Wicker Jr. in his Muscle Shoals home and that Arthur was innocent. A Jefferson County judge reviewed that claim and found that it wasn't credible.

Assistant Attorney General Clay Crenshaw said that cleared the way for the state to seek a new execution date Tuesday.

The Supreme Court has set an execution date for Arthur three times previously and each time it has been canceled due to appeals.
