Montgomery, AL – Alabama is getting a $645,000 federal grant to try to increase driving safety involving commercial trucks and private vehicles.
State Public Safety Director Chris Murphy and other officials announced the grant Wednesday in front of the Capitol.
The grant will be used for a program called Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks. Murphy said it will involve enforcement, as well as education about how to avoid crashes with trucks. He says 75 percent of the accidents that occur in and around commercial vehicles are the fault of the drivers of private vehicles.
Part of the educational effort includes six tractor-trailers covered with full-color signs saying ``Leave More Space for Trucks.'' They will be traveling Alabama roads throughout the yearlong campaign.
