Rains Tapering Off In Ala., Flood Watch Remains

Birmingham, AL – Parts of Alabama are drying out after days of heavy rain, but the threat of flooding hasn't gone away.

The northern three-quarters of the state remained under a flood watch Tuesday, and the National Weather Service said more rain was possible. But central Alabama was at least temporarily free of the rain that left some homes and businesses in standing water.

In Bibb County, the Cahaba River has crested about 3{ feet over flood stage at Centreville. More than 30 people had to be rescued in the area at the worst of the flooding Monday.

Forecasters have issued a flood warning for extreme southwest Alabama. Water levels there are predicted to continue rising at least through Sunday as all that rain drains toward the Gulf of Mexico.
