Ala. GOP Gov. Candidate Bentley Targets Abortion

Montgomery, AL – Republican candidate for governor Robert Bentley has made prohibiting abortion in Alabama a priority issue in his campaign.

Bentley, a state representative from Tuscaloosa, said at a Montgomery news conference Tuesday that he prefiled in the Alabama Legislature a proposed constitutional amendment to ban most abortions in Alabama.

Bentley said he is introducing two other bills. One would require physicians to tell a woman that abortion terminates the life of a separate, living human being. The other would protect the rights of health care workers who for moral reasons refuse to participate in abortions.

A retired Tuscaloosa physician, Bentley urged other candidates for governor to speak out against abortion.
