Dothan Guard Member Hurt In Fort Hood Shooting

Birmingham, AL – An Alabama National Guard officer and longtime tire company worker from Dothan has been identified as one of 30 people who were injured in the deadly shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas.

Guard officials said Friday that Maj. Randy Royer of Dothan, a member the 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, was hurt in the gunfire, which left 13 people dead. The unit left Alabama less than a week ago to prepare for deployment later this year to Afghanistan.

Royer was hospitalized and may require surgery, but Guard spokeswoman Lt. Col. Cynthia Bachus said his injuries were not considered life threatening.
