Dauphin Island, AL – Alabama's beaches came through tropical storm Ida largely unscathed.
The storm came ashore on the Alabama coast early Tuesday morning, flooding the main road on the low-lying west end of Dauphin Island and knocking out power on the island. But residents say they came through fine.
Island resident Patricia Pitt had minor debris in her yard on the west end of the island. But she said residents did a good job of securing loose objects before the storm so that they wouldn't become missiles.
The Emergency Management Agency reports no damage in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. A hotel clerk in Orange Beach, Frank Worley, said Ida was more like a thunderstorm than a hurricane.
