Group Says Ala. Is Getting Greener

Mobile, AL – A new report by the Green Resource Center for Alabama says the state has becoma a little more environment-conscious this year.

Pat Byington, head of the center, says the state is making its biggest strides in construction. The Press-Register reports that Byington says the energy price spikes of the last few years helped push people to look at constructing more efficient buildings.

He says there remains room for improvement. For example, while free curbside recycling is available in Birmingham and Huntsville, such a program has yet to catch on in Mobile, where residents must pay to have newspapers, cans, and bottles picked up at their homes.

Byington said Alabama needs to improve in some critical areas, such as enforcement of existing pollution laws.
