Birmingham, AL – Forecasters are cutting back on the amount of snow they say is possible for Alabama.
The National Weather Service now says a maximum of 1{ inches of snow may fall in the state on Thursday, and that could come in a narrow band from Birmingham through Anniston into east Alabama. Earlier predictions were for up to 2 inches across a wider area.
Northwest Alabama is now forecast to get less than a half-inch of snow, with most of the central part of the state predicted to get 1 inch or less. Even less is predicted in southern counties.
Still, forecasters say dangerously cold temperatures are on the way.
Numerous school systems have shutdown for Thursday or Friday in north Alabama because of the wintry threat.
