Holmes Wants Lawmakers To Study Computer Contracts

Montgomery, AL – The chairman of a legislative oversight committee says he wants to form a panel to study all state contracts for consultants and computer work.

Democratic Rep. Alvin Holmes of Montgomery said Thursday he wants the panel to determine if it would cost less for state employees to do work now being done by private contractors. Holmes is chairman of the Legislature's Contract Review Committee and a longtime critic of state computer and consultant contracts.

Holmes delayed several computer and consultant contracts at the committee's meeting Thursday. He claimed the work could be done for less by state employees.

Holmes says he will introduce a resolution to form the new panel when lawmakers convene Tuesday for the 2010 regular session.
