Montgomery, AL – State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton says Gov. Riley hit a home run in his last State of the State speech when he talked about legalizing charter schools and providing more money for education.
Riley delivered his eighth State of the State address to the Legislature last night in Montgomery.
Democratic state Rep. John Robinson of Scottsboro said Riley didn't give details on how he proposes to increase funding for schools and prevent budget cuts for non-education agencies.
Republican state Rep. Howard Sanderford of Huntsville applauded Riley's remarks about stopping casinos in Alabama. Sanderford says he expects a bill to expand, tax and regulate electronic bingo will die in the 2010 session like it did in the 2009 session.
