By Associated Press

Monroeville, AL – Anne Farish, who served as mayor of Monroeville for 16 years, has died at 83.

Farish, whose father also served as mayor of the south Alabama city, served on the city council before being elected mayor in 1992.

The Mobile Press-Register reports Sandy Smith, executive director of the Monroeville Area Chamber of Commerce, says that with Farish as mayor, the city built its first industrial park as well as a new city hall and police station.

Farish, who died Monday, was a native of Monroeville and worked in real estate for many years. She also served as president of the Chamber of Commerce.

The funeral was scheduled for Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church in Monroeville.
