Birmingham, AL – A federal judge has denied former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford's request for a new trial.
U.S. District Judge Scott Coogler turned down the request on Tuesday.
Langford was convicted Oct. 28 by a Tuscaloosa federal jury on all 60 counts of bribery, money laundering, conspiracy and tax evasion.
The charges were related to Langford's accepting $236,000 in cash, clothing and jewelry from Montgomery investment banker Bill Blount in exchange for Langford's steering county business to Blount's company.
The Birmingham News reports Langford's new trial request argued the jury's quick verdict and the judge's prohibition of certain testimony prevented him from getting a fair hearing.
