Lawsuit Planned Over Landfill's Coal Ash Shipments

Uniontown, AL – Perry County residents have filed notice that they plan a lawsuit against a huge landfill in west Alabama that's accepting coal ash from an environmental spill in eastern Tennessee.

An attorney for about 150 Uniontown residents sent the notice to operators of the Arrowhead Landfill this week. The letter says the landfill has been causing foul odors that have been making life miserable in the area since last summer.

The notice says the releases violate environmental laws.

But the president of landfill operator Phill-Con Services, Eddie Dorsett, says the landfill is abiding by environmental regulations.

The the landfill is accepting coal ash under a $95 million contract with the Tennessee Valley Authority. The landfill's owners have filed for bankruptcy, but the operators handling the shipments haven't.
