GOP Candidate Cites Anti-Griffith Letter

Huntsville, AL – A Republican candidate for the congressional seat held by recent Republican convert Parker Griffith says a GOP committtee's fundraising letter attacking the incumbent as a liberal was no mistake.

Griffith, elected to the 5th District seat in 2008 as a Democrat, switched parties in December.

On Monday (02-08-10), Mo Brooks of Huntsville received a letter identifying Griffith as a Democrat who ``has been falling in line with Nancy Pelosi's destructive liberal agenda.''

The letter came from National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions, and identified Griffith as the Democratic incumbent. A committee spokesman calls the mailing a mistake.

Brooks says the NRCC drafted the letter before Griffith switched parties, and that it reflects the organization's feelings about Griffith's voting record.

Griffith says he would expect Brooks to do what he is doing.
