Snow In Ala. Closes Schools, 2 Reported Deaths

Pike Road, AL – State troopers say icy road conditions in Alabama contributed to a car plunging into a pond, leading to the deaths of two young brothers.

Trooper Kevin Cook said 2-year-old Antonio Jamal Williams and 4-year-old Jacoby Amir Bell were killed in the crash just before noon Friday.

He said the children's mother, 26-year-old Andrea Bell of Montgomery, was driving on Alabama 110 when the car ran off the roadway and into a pond while attempting to pass another vehicle.

Cook said weather is believed to be a factor in the crash. He said the mother managed to escape and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident near the Pike Road community came as snow falling across Alabama closed many schools and offices. The snow, as much as several inches in places, brought blankets of white to some parts of south Alabama for the first time in decades.
