Second Round of Winter Weather Hits Deep South

By Associated Press

Atlanta, GA – A second snow storm in less is than a week is hitting parts of the South unaccustomed to dealing with the frosty precipitation.

Snow was falling in parts of Alabama early Monday. But Atlanta was spared after earlier forecasts called for up to 2 inches. Overnight temperatures stayed above freezing and it rained instead of snowing before dawn Monday.

The National Weather Service says northern Alabama could see up to 3 inches. Snow was also forecast up through Tennessee to Kentucky.

Atlanta and other cities ill-equipped to deal with icy roads and snow were hit by a storm Friday and Saturday. The storm canceled thousands of flights at the country's busiest airport in Atlanta and was blamed for hundreds of traffic accidents.
