Ala. Candidate For Gov. Lays Out Economic Plan

Montgomery, AL – U.S. Rep. Artur Davis is laying out an economic development plan for his Democratic gubernatorial campaign that includes tax credits for staying in school, creating jobs and increasing salaries.

Davis unveiled his lengthy plan Monday on the Capitol steps in Montgomery. It includes the state paying the federal payroll taxes for new jobs that offer an above-average wage and are located in high unemployment areas. The plan would provide a $500 annual tax credit for families making less than $65,000 annually if they have high school students who stay in school, pass their courses and stay out of trouble.

Davis' plan also includes tax incentives for existing plants that invest in upgrades and tax credits to encourage the growth of high-tech industries.
