Birmingham, AL – Campaign finance reports show the two runoff contenders in the Birmingham mayor's race spent nearly $1 million combined.
Patrick Cooper's disclosure statement shows he raised $545,535 in cash and spent $686,317 in his unsuccessful bid to become Birmingham's mayor.
Winning candidate William Bell reported raising $328,577 and spending $313,092, leaving his campaign with a balance of $15,485 and no debts.
Cooper ended the campaign with a $25,787 deficit and debts totaling $179,005. He received a 100,000 loan from Tuscaloosa developer Stan Pate five days before the election.
