Montgomery, AL – House Speaker Seth Hammett says state Sen. Roger Bedford has improved his electronic bingo bill by making it simpler, but it doesn't appear to have gained him any votes in the Senate.
Hammett said Thursday the bill still appears two votes short of the 21 votes needed in the Senate.
The speaker said he doesn't intend for the House to address electronic bingo unless the Senate approves a bill.
Bedford's revised bill would still tax and regulate electronic bingo, but it no longer specifies 10 locations for electronic bingo casinos. Bedford also trimmed several other provisions from the bill and took it from 43 pages to eight. Hammett called the original bill "much too convoluted."
