Montgomery, AL – More than 250 opponents of the federal health care plan have rallied at the Alabama Statehouse in Montgomery to urge the Legislature to fight back.
They called for the Legislature to pass a proposed constitutional amendment that would prohibit any person, employer, or heath care provider from being compelled to participate in any health care system.
The Senate sponsor, Republican Scott Beason of Gardendale, said Tuesday he's been blocked by the Senate's Democratic leadership from getting the bill on the Senate's work agenda. He says the Democratic leadership is concerned that a debate over health care could thwart their efforts to pass electronic bingo legislation.
Navy retiree Keith Auston drove from Cullman to attend his first Statehouse rally. He said he's concerned that the health care plan is another step toward losing individual rights.
