Ala. Power's Plant Farley Gets NRC's OK

Dothan, AL – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved the performance of Alabama Power's Plant Farley for 2009.

The NRC met on Tuesday with Southern Nuclear Operating Co. and said the plant near Dothan was operated last year ``in a manner that preserved the public health and safety.''

The commission said the plant failed to properly maintain the radio system used to alert residents in the event of an emergency. But it said the plant has corrected most of the problems from a year earlier and is nearly back to an ideal safety level.

Farley Vice President Randy Johnson says he's satisfied with the commission's findings.
