Gov. Riley Seeks Ideas For Using $25M Oil Spill Grant

Mobile, AL – Alabama Gov. Bob Riley says he wants local coastal leaders to help the state decide how best to use a $25 million grant from BP PLC to protect the shoreline.

Riley, in Mobile on Friday, said he wants the local officials to determine what additional measures are needed to protect their coastal communities from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Riley said the state then hopes to use the grant money to implement some of their proposals in the coming days.

BP announced the $25 million grant earlier this week. Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida also got grant funding.

Riley said he wants to use the money to do the things that are ``above and beyond what most people would expect.''
