Mobile, AL – Alabama Gov. Bob Riley and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano are praising the citizen response to the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Riley joined Napolitano on Tuesday at a briefing in Mobile after the Homeland Security chief made her third visit to staging areas in eight days. She said she was impressed with the response by thousands on the Gulf coast.
Riley said the impact of the spill continues to grow, but he said the state has a plan in place to protect its estuaries and beaches. And he said people are coming from all points to assist.
Napolitano said the effort is in its beginning stages and assumes that it may be weeks before the gushing oil is stopped.
