Montgomery, Alabama – Democratic candidate for governor Artur Davis is calling for a limit on campaign contributions in Alabama and more disclosure of contributions.
The Birmingham congressman held a news conference Wednesday in Montgomery, where he said Alabama needs to end its practice of allowing unlimited campaign contributions from individuals and political action committees. He also said Alabama should start requiring groups that run issue advertising to disclose their donors when they buy the advertising.
Davis outlined his ideas as an unknown group called the New Sons of Liberty prepares to launch a massive ad campaign Friday.
Davis faces Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks in the Democratic primary June 1.
