Mobile Commissioner Charged With Murder Resigns

Mobile, AL – A Mobile County commissioner charged with the fatal shooting of his former girlfriend has resigned office rather than face impeachment.

County spokeswoman Nancy Johnson told the Press-Register that Nodine sent a letter of resignation Thursday. He had served on the commission since 2004.

A grand jury has indicted Nodine on a murder charge for the May 9 shooting death of Angel Downs. The grand jury also impeached him on charges including fraudulently purchasing more than 2,400 Lortab painkillers from nine pharmacies in four states and abusing Downs.

Mobile District Attorney John Tyson Jr. said Nodine's resignation ends the impeachment proceedings.
