Birmingham, AL – Rep. Artur Davis, who was soundly beaten in the Democratic primary in the Alabama governor's race, says he's giving up politics.
The four-term 7th District congressman took 38 percent of the vote in the primary on Tuesday to 62 percent for Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks.
Davis said Tuesday he has no interest in running for political office again. He says Alabama voters spoke in a decisive way across every sector and section of the state.
Davis voted against the health care overhaul bill in Congress, saying he believed the proposal was too big and expensive. He was the only black Democrat to vote against the measure. Davis says the vote was consistent with his voting record.
