Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Republican Party expects to have official election results Tuesday afternoon to show whether Tuscaloosa physician Robert Bentley keeps his spot in the Republican runoff for governor or gets edged out by Greenville developer Robert Bentley.
Party spokesman Philip Bryan said county Republican executive committees are supposed to count provisional ballots Tuesday and then complete their results to send to the state party.
State Republican Chairman Mike Hubbard had meetings with the candidates or their representatives Monday in Birmingham. Secretary of State Beth Chapman also attended the meeting.
Hubbard said he wants people to be confident that the runoff opponent for first-place finisher Bradley Byrne was chosen by the voters and not the party.
