James: Expect Recount in GOP Race

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – Tim James says he's expecting a recount in Alabama's Republican race for governor, and he's asking supporters to contribute money in case he's the one who has to pay for it.

The Alabama Republican Party expects to have an official vote count Tuesday afternoon. It will show whether Robert Bentley kept the second-place finish he had in unofficial returns from the June 1 primary or whether Tim James got enough provisional ballots to move up from third place.

James writes on his website that he expects a recount no matter how the official count turns out.

Secretary of State Beth Chapman says the candidate requesting a recount has to pay the cost.

The second-place finisher will face Bradley Byrne in a runoff July 13.
