Tuscaloosa, AL – The U.S. Census Bureau has increased its estimate of Alabamas 2009 Hispanic population by nearly 18,000.
The State Data Center at the University of Alabama says the new estimate for 2009 is 152,516, up from the previous estimate of 134,810.
Annette Watters, manager of the data center, says the estimate for previous years also was increased.
She says the new estimates for 2009 put Jefferson County's Hispanic population at more than 23,600.
Other counties with more than 10,000 Hispanics are Madison and Marshall.
The new tables also provide new estimates of the racial composition of Alabama's counties. Alabama has 11 majority-black counties.
