Federal Judge Approves Release of Former Mobile Co. Commissioner

By Associated Press

Mobile, AL – A federal judge upheld a magistrate judge's decision to release former Mobile County Commissioner Stephen Nodine from jail while he awaits trial on a federal gun charge.

U.S. District Judge Ginny Granade ruled on Wednesday that U.S. Magistrate Judge William Cassady made the right decision to order Nodine's release.

Nodine, who had been held in jail since he turned himself in on a murder charge May 24, was fitted with an electronic monitoring device and went to the home of a friend who agreed to take Nodine in.

Baldwin County Circuit Judge Charles Partin on Wednesday set a hearing for June 23 to reconsider his decision to reduce Nodine's bail on a murder charge. Prosecutors want to present e-mails between Nodine and the alleged victim, Angel Downs.
