HUD Gives Ala., Ga. Housing Funds For HIV Patients

Birmingham, AL – An Alabama group will use more than $800,000 in federal funds to help provide permanent housing to low-income persons living with HIV and AIDS.

AIDS Alabama Inc. will get $879,963 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It's offered through HUD's Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program. The funding announced Tuesday will renew HUD's support of 29 local programs in 19 states. They include Georgia, where the city of Savannah will use $269,278 to help low-income persons living with HIV and AIDS.

Authorities will hand out $30.2 million in grants. During each of the next three years, the HUD funding will provide permanent supportive housing for more than 1,200 households.
