Justice Dept. Sending Monitors To Ala. Runoff

Montgomery, AL – The U.S. Justice Department says it is sending federal observers to polling places in Barbour and Russell counties for the runoff election Tuesday.

The department says its personnel will also monitor the election in Lee County for compliance with the Voting Rights Act.

All three counties are in state Senate District 28, where state Rep. Billy Beasley of Clayton and former Tuskegee Mayor Johnny Ford are in the Democratic runoff.
