Ala. AG Plans Lawsuit Against BP Over Oil Spill

Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Troy King says the state will file a lawsuit against BP seeking revenue lost because of the Gulf oil spill.

King says he made the decision because of frustration with delays in the claims process. King made the announcement Thursday at a news conference with the two nominees for governor, Republican Robert Bentley and Democrat Ron Sparks.

King says the lawsuit will be filed by the Alabama law firm of Balch Bingham. The lawyers will get up to 14 percent of what they recover for the state.

Bentley and Sparks say they support King in filing the suit.

King says he informed the governor's staff of his plans, but he has not talked to the governor because he's overseas on an industry-hunting trip.
