Birmingham, AL – Organizers of an annual weight loss competition in Alabama are looking for more groups and companies to participate.
Abby Dorminey, public relations specialist with the Alabama Hospital Association, says the downturn in the economy appears to have had an effect on overall participation in Scale Back Alabama.
The number of participants peaked the second year at about 40,000; this year, about 30,000 people signed up
The program's fifth year begins in January, when four-person teams weigh in for the 10-week competition. There were teams from 64 of Alabama's 67 counties taking part this year.
