Florala Mayor Favors Electronic Bingo Despite Case

Florala, AL – The mayor of Florala says he still favors a plan for electronic bingo in the south Alabama city despite the recent indictment of 11 Statehouse figures on bribery charges.

Mayor Robert Williamson said the plan to build an entertainment complex with electronic bingo in Florala would provide jobs and revenue for charities in the area. He added that he doesn't think the project has been killed by the indictments.

The 11 defendants, including four state senators and two casino operators, are accused of conspiring to buy and sell votes on a bill to legalize the electronic bingo operations.

The mayor said he has been called ``Foolish in Florala'' but still thinks electronic gaming is an option.
