Dothan, AL – Authorities in Houston County are investigating whether people fradulently requested absentee ballots in the upcoming election.
Houston County Circuit Clerk Carla Woodall said Wednesday that the handwriting on some applications for absentee ballots appeared to match the writing on other requests. She sent letters asking that 89 people who requested absentee ballots provide additional proof of eligibility.
Woodall said she gave 15 applications that she believes contain false addresses to District Attorney Doug Valeska.
Valeska is a candidate in the upcoming election and turned over the investigation to another law enforcement agency to prevent a conflict of interest. He would not say which agency is investigating.
