Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley has refused to stop the execution of death row inmate Phillip Hallford, set to die for the 1987 killing of his daughter's 16-year-old boyfriend.
The Alabama Supreme Court earlier rejected a motion for a stay of the execution, which is to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday. Hallford's attorney has turned to the U.S. Supreme Court with an 11th-hour motion for a stay.
Riley said Hallford committed a ``heinous, premeditated'' act that a jury and courts have found deserves the death penalty.
Hallford was sentenced to die for forcing his then-15-year-old daughter to lure Eddie Shannon to an isolated area in Dale County, shooting him three times and throwing the body off a bridge.
