Montgomery, AL – Gov. Bob Riley says he expects to decide within a week whether to call a special session of the new Alabama Legislature before he leaves office in January.
Riley said Tuesday the time is right after the election Nov. 2 to pass ethics and campaign finance laws. In that election, Republicans took control of the Legislature for the first time in 136 years. Riley said he will talk with Republican legislative leaders Wednesday to get their comments.
The Republicans' choice for speaker of the House, Mike Hubbard, said a small group of Republican legislators has been working to develop bills and their ideas will be shared with the governor.
