Tuscaloosa, AL – Forty-five years ago, the federal government launched an initiative to spur economic development in some of the nation's poorest areas. The Appalachian Highway Development System identified twenty-four separate routes in thirteen states, called corridors, along which modern highways would be built.
Now, one of those highways is close to completion, and Alabama Public Radio's Brandon Hollingsworth hit the road to find out what it means for the communities through which it passes.
