Ex-Alabama Chancellor Pleads Guilty In Ethics Case

Opelika, AL – Former Alabama two-year college chancellor Roy Johnson has pleaded guilty to a state ethics charge for actions committed while he oversaw the community college system from 2002 to 2006.

Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob Walker sentenced Johnson to five years in prison, but the judge ruled that the sentence would run simultaneously with a six-and-a-half year federal sentence Johnson received for taking bribes and kickbacks. That means he will not have to serve any extra time because of the guilty plea in state court.

Johnson is to begin serving his federal sentence on Dec. 28.
