Montgomery, AL – Gov.-elect Robert Bentley has chosen a family doctor from Valley to be Alabama's Medicaid commissioner and has asked John Harrison to remain as state banking superintendent.
Bentley announced his decisions Wednesday.
He picked Dr. R. Bob Mullins Jr. of Valley to oversee the Medicaid program, which provides health care to some 900,000 poor Alabama residents. It has been run by Robert Church Jr. since Carol Steckel left last month to take a post in Louisiana.
Mullins, who began his private practice in 1973, was president of the medical association of Alabama in 2004-2005.
Harrison, a community banker and former mayor of Luverne, became banking superintendent in 2005 after two years as head of the state's economic and community affairs agency.
