Montgomery, AL – Death row inmate Leroy White has asked a federal judge in Birmingham and the Alabama Supreme Court to stop his execution scheduled for Jan. 13 at Holman Prison in Atmore.
White's attorneys have asked U.S. District Judge Karon Bowdre and the state supreme court to stop the execution because his previous attorneys caused him to miss a deadline to file an appeal.
White was sentenced to die for the Oct. 17, 1988 shotgun slaying in Madison County of his estranged wife, Ruby. Court records say White was holding his 17-month-old daughter in one arm and the shotgun in the other when he fired the fatal shot.
