Barton, Love Named To Lead House Budget Committees

Montgomery, AL – Two small business owners have been named chairmen of the two committees that prepare the state budgets in the Alabama House.

House Speaker Mike Hubbard on Wednesday appointed Republican Rep. Jay Love of Montgomery to be chairman of the House Ways and Means-Education Committee. Republican Rep. Jim Barton of Mobile was named chairman of the Ways and Means General Fund Committee. Love owns a restaurant in Montgomery and Barton owns several small businesses in Mobile.

Hubbard appointed Republicans to chair all 23 House committees to reflect the new GOP majority in the House.

The House and Senate also met in joint session Wednesday for an official reading of the results of the November general election that gave Republicans control of all branches of state government.
