Montgomery, AL – Alabama's first Republican lieutenant governor, Kay Ivey, took the oath of office by noting the historic nature of her term.
She told an inaugural crowd Monday that for the first time in a long time Alabama will have a governor and lieutenant governor who will be working with each other instead of going at each other.
Alabama's governor and lieutenant governor have been from opposite parties since Republican Guy Hunt was elected governor in 1986 and Democrat Jim Folsom Jr. was elected lieutenant governor. Ivey defeated Folsom in November.
She is the second woman and first Republican woman to hold the office.
