Alabama's New AG Pursuing BP Suit As Lead attorney

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's new attorney general, Luther Strange, says he is pursuing Alabama's lawsuit against BP and other companies over the Gulf oil spill, and he will be in federal court in New Orleans on Friday when a federal judge considers the mass of litigation stemming from the spill.

Strange said Wednesday he will be Alabama's lead attorney, and he has fired private law firms that had been hired to represent the state. Strange said he believes Alabama has been harmed more than any other state by the spill, mostly because of lost tourism dollars. He said he hopes his presence will convey to the judge the importance the case has to Alabama residents.

The suit was filed by former Attorney General Troy King, who was defeated by Strange.
