Montgomery, AL – A former Country Crossing lobbyist now in federal prison says he made a $1 million offer on behalf of the casino's developer to try to get a state senator's vote on pro gambling legislation.
Jarrod Massey testified Monday at a bond revocation hearing for Country Crossing developer Ronnie Gilley. The hearing is continuing.
He said Gilley promised state Sen. Scott Beason a lucrative public relations contract if he would support the bill. Massey said he told Beason the next day that Gilley would pay $1 million per year. They did not know that Beason was working with federal investigators.
Prosecutors have asked a federal judge to revoke Gilley's bond in Alabama's gambling probe.
