Birmingham, AL – The executive director of the Alabama Republican Party, John Ross, is resigning and plans to join a newly created government relations firm in Montgomery.
Ross has been the party's executive director since 2007. His last day as executive director will be Friday.
Party chairman Mike Hubbard announced Ross' resignation Monday and praised him for leading the party through the 2010 elections. Republicans swept all statewide offices on the ballot in 2010 and won majorities in the Alabama Legislature for the first time since Reconstruction.
Ross plans to join the government relations firm Swatek, Azbell, Howe & Ross.
Hubbard is also stepping down and executive committee members will elect a new chairman on Feb. 19.
