Foreclosure Filings Drop In Alabama

Opelika, AL – A listing firm says foreclosure filings in Alabama are continuing to decline.

Data released Thursday by RealtyTrac shows there were 1,642 foreclosure filings in Alabama in January. The company describes a foreclosure filing as a default notice, scheduled auction or bank repossession.

January's figures show a sharp decline from the yearly high of 2,754 state foreclosures in November.

The data also shows that there is one home in foreclosure for every 1,329 in the state, which ranks 16th best in the nation.

Foreclosure filings in the U.S. edged up 1 percent from December to 261,333, a 17 percent decrease from one year ago.
