Birmingham, AL – President Obama's proposed federal budget would terminate a program that gives Children's Hospital in Birmingham about $5.5 million annually for training pediatricians.
The hospital's CEO, Tom Shufflebarger, says it would require a significant program restructuring.
But that's no the only example of how the proposed budget cuts would affect Alabama.
Agencies that help low-income Alabamians pay their heating bills would also see big reductions. A community action agency serving Morgan, Lawrence and Cullman counties is anticipating a significant drop in the $2 million it gets each year to help about 5,000 people.
These programs are among about 200 proposed for cuts.
